President Boric names expert committee for integrity in foundations and corporations

This renowned group of experts will address the relationship between private non-profit institution (corporations and foundations) and the State, based on the principles of transparency, effectiveness, efficiency, and accountability.

President Gabriel Boric has named the members of an expert committee for probity and transparency in corporations and foundations, a technical task force that will address the relationship between private non-profit organizations and the State.

This committee will be based on the following principles:

  • Transparency
  • Effectiveness
  • Efficiency
  • Accountability

According to President Boric, the committee will have a maximum period of 45 days to make proposals for improving the relationship between civil society organizations and the State, thus having a positive impact on people’s quality of life.

Who are the members of the committee for probity and transparency in corporations and foundations?

The committee for probity and transparency in foundations and corporations will be made up of:

  • María Jaraquemada Hederra, who will act as president
  • Ramiro Mendoza Zúñiga
  • Jeannette Von Wolfersdorff
  • Ignacio Irarrázaval Llona
  • Francisco Agüero Vargas

General objectives of the expert committee

The committee for probity and transparency will have a maximum period of 45 days to make proposals for improving the relationship between civil society foundations and the State.

This objective aims to improve people’s quality of life.

The team will operate under the Ministry General Secretariat of the Presidency, which will provide administrative support for its optimal functioning. The executive secretary of the ministry’s Public Integrity and Transparency Committee, Valeria Lübbert Álvarez, will also act as executive secretary of this new committee.

Key duties of the expert committee for foundations and corporations

The expert committee for probity and transparency in the relationship with foundations and corporations will have the following duties:

  • Identifying the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of collaboration between private non-profit institutions and the State.
  • Proposing mechanisms to ensure greater effectiveness and transparency in the relationship between private non-profit institutions and the State, which facilitate public knowledge on the use of funds granted to such institutions.
  • Proposing modifications to governance, financial transparency, and integrity requirements for private non-profit institutions that work with the State in order to guarantee the appropriate use of public funds.
  • Reviewing control and accountability mechanisms, as well as proposals to prevent conflicts of interest.
  • Proposing penalties for improper use of public funds.
