2018 Immigration Regularization Process began on April 23

On Monday, the registration phase of the Immigration Regularization Process began for foreigners with irregular immigration status. This is one of the measures being implemented to regulate entry into Chile in a safe and orderly way.

A few weeks ago, President Sebastián Piñera announced instructions for the Immigration Bill and a series of measures to modify the current regulations so as to ensure safe, orderly and regular immigration for foreigners entering Chile.

This Monday, April 23, the Immigration Regularization Process started. This is an opportunity for foreigners with irregular immigration status to be able to regularize their situation and obtain a temporary visa and identity card enabling them to comply with immigration laws.

 

Which foreigners must be regularized?

Individuals who have entered the country in unauthorized ways, eluding border control.
Individuals with an expired tourist visa.
Individuals with an expired residence visa.
Individuals with a pending application for a residence visa.
Individuals whose visa application is being reconsidered
Individuals with a valid tourist visa as of April 8, 2018.
Individuals with a valid residence visa who are earning money without the correct authorization.

 

What are the phases of regularization?
  1. REGISTRATION PHASE: This phase started on April 23, 2018. Foreigners just need to register, taking along their identification card or document; no other documentation is needed.
  2. PROCESSING PHASE: This phase starts on July 23, 2018 for foreigners who have registered. Applicants must bring a background check certificate (Certificado de Antecedentes) and, if applicable, the authority will grant them a temporary visa.

 

Where can the regularization process be completed?

In the Chilean Immigration Department (Departamento de Extranjería y Migración, DEM), regional government offices, and the offices of ChileAtiende.

The government has also set up eight additional locations in the Metropolitan Region, such as the Víctor Jara Stadium in Santiago and the Leonel Sánchez Stadium in the municipality of Recoleta. For a complete list of locations, click here
