Chile’s Treasury Minister meets with U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen

During the meeting, both authorities discussed ways to resolve the tax treaty between Chile and the United States. They also addressed issues such as economic recovery and its relationship with climate change.

Chile’s Treasury Minister, Rodrigo Cerda, met today with U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, Janet Yellen, in Washington DC, aiming to make progress on the tax treaty between the two countries.

During the meeting, both authorities discussed ways to resolve the tax treaty between Chile and the United States. They also addressed issues such as economic recovery and its relationship with climate change.

“Today, we had a very good meeting with the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, Janet Yellen. We discussed several issues, including the Chile-U.S. tax treaty, which for several years has not been able to move forward in both countries’ congresses. In this context, we explored options on how to advance it. We also talked about economic recovery and how it relates to addressing climate change and job recovery,” Minister Cerda stated.

The meeting took place as part of Minister Cerda’s trip to the U.S. capital to meet with U.S. authorities and international organizations.

On Monday morning, he traveled to the University of Maryland, where he spoke to students and academics about the macroeconomic environment in Chile and Latin America.

The Treasury Minister’s agenda is set to continue tomorrow, when he will meet with the president of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Mauricio Claver-Carone, to discuss the regional platform of finance ministers for climate action.

He will also speak at a conference at Georgetown University, where he will present on Chile’s economic environment and participate in a discussion with students.

The last day of Minister Cerda’s tour of Washington DC will be Wednesday, during which he will meet with the managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva.
