In a significant step for cooperation and integration in Latin America, Chile has transferred the pro tempore presidency of the Pacific Alliance to Peru.

This transition comes after Chile served as the leader of the political articulation and economic and trade integration entity, which also includes Colombia, Mexico and Peru.

Chile transfers Pacific Alliance leadership to Peru

Chile became PTP of the Pacific Alliance on June 28 and made an explicit commitment to transfer it to Peru at the end of its term.

Since its inception, the Pacific Alliance has operated in a spirit of collaboration and mutual respect among member countries.

In this context, Chile has always recognized that it is Peru's turn to take on this leadership role, continuing the tradition of alphabetical rotation established in the Alliance's Framework Agreement.

August 1 marks an important day for the Pacific Alliance, as Peru assumes the pro tempore presidency until the first quarter of 2024.

During this period, Peru will be responsible for leading initiatives aimed at progressively moving towards the free movement of goods, services, capital and people among member countries.

What is the Pacific Alliance?

The Pacific Alliance is a mechanism for political articulation, economic and trade integration, cooperation and global projection. It was created to enhance the growth and competitiveness of the member economies for the benefit of their inhabitants.
