Bill Gates will be part of the Clean Energy Summit organized by Chile, which will bring together the world’s leading economies

The founder of Microsoft promotes energy transformation as a tool for fighting climate change. He will be one of the speakers at the most important clean energy innovation event of the year.

On June 2, Bill Gates will be one of the speakers at the Net Zero Summit, one of the high points of Clean Energy Ministerial 12 / Mission Innovation 6 (CEM12/MI-6), the most important international clean energy innovation event of the year. Chile is hosting the ministerial summits, which will take place between May 31 and June 6.

The co-president of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and founder of Breakthrough Energy has spent a decade researching climate change and has outlined his proposals in the book How to Avoid a Climate Disaster: The Solutions We Have and the Breakthroughs We Need. Through the Breakthrough Energy organization, Gates and 30 or so millionaires offer funding to start-ups that have the potential to generate energy with zero carbon emissions in an affordable and reliable manner, facilitating their access to the market.

The Net Zero Summit that Gates will participate in marks the launch of a new stage of Mission Innovation, which is designed to accelerate innovation in clean energies. Like all of the CEM12/MI-6 activities, the conversation is open to all audiences through a virtual platform.

“Chile is the first South American country to organize the world's most important clean energy and innovation summit. We have planned a world-class event that will feature Bill Gates, Michael Bloomberg, John Kerry and others. Furthermore, the event will be open to the global community for the first time. We have not yet ‘won the race’ to become carbon neutral as a planet and this week’s activities will be key to listening, learning and redoubling our efforts to win it. I invite you to be part of this challenge,” stated Energy and Mining Minister Juan Carlos Jobet.

The summit will also include UN Secretary General António Guterres; Patricia Espinosa, the Executive Secretary of UNFCC; Ursula Von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission; John Kerry, United States Special Presidential Envoy for Climate; Alok Sharma, the President of COP 26; Mariana Mazzucato, Professor in the Economics of Innovation at University College London; Fatih Birol, Executive Director of the IEA; Francesco La Camera, Director General of IRENA; Michele Azalbert, CEO of ENGIE Hydrogen; Tomas Anker Christensen, the Climate Ambassador of Denmark; Alan Finkel, Special Adviser to the Australian Government on Low Emissions Technology; and Oluwadabira Abiola-Awe, Youth Ambassador for Student Energy.
