We inaugurate the first public transport service to Santiago airport

Airport users will be able to travel on RED service buses from this Saturday, paying with their Bip! card. The service will connect the Pajaritos metro station with the Intermodal Aeropuerto at the entrance to Nuevo Pudahuel.

The RED public transport system route 555 will become the first public bus service to arrive at Santiago airport from this Saturday. This is great news, as it will connect users of the main terminal with our capital city. They will be able to pay with their Bip! travel card.

The service will be operated by Metbus. It will connect the Pajaritos metro station with the Intermodal Aeropuerto at the entrance to Nuevo Pudahuel. The announcement was made by Transport and Telecommunications Minister Juan Carlos Muñoz, together with the director of Metropolitan Public Transport, Paola Tapia; the mayor of Pudahuel, Ítalo Bravo; the mayor of Lo Prado, Maximiliano Ríos; and the CEO of Nuevo Pudahuel, Nicolás Claude.

The service will begin operating this Saturday, January 14. It will have the following characteristics:

  • Eight stops in each direction, including:

To Santiago: Intermodal Aeropuerto; ENEA; (M) Barrancas; (M) Pajaritos

To the Airport: (M) Pajaritos; ENEA; Intermodal Aeropuerto

  • Route 555 will operate during metro hours, from 6 am to 11 pm.
  • There will be 20 buses that will depart every 10 minutes.
  • The 13 km route will take an estimated 30 to 35 minutes.
  • It is estimated that 15,000 people will use this service each month.
  • The service will operate with high-standard Mercedes Benz O200U buses, with Euro VI engines, air conditioning and a total of 31 seats.
  • The service will have two pay areas at each end of the route to ease the flow of users, in particular casual travelers and airport workers. This will assist with boarding, especially for those carrying luggage.
  • Once passengers arrive at Intermodal Aeropuerto, they must connect with free transport services provided by Nuevo Pudahuel. These services will also depart approximately every 10 minutes. According to data from Nuevo Pudahuel, the journey to the domestic and international terminal will take another 10 to 15 minutes.
