President Piñera announces that Spain has offered to hold the COP25 climate change conference in Madrid

Spanish President Pedro Sánchez offered to hold the event in the capital city on the original dates. He reiterated that Chile will remain president COP25 in order to continue making progress on agreements designed to protect the environment.

On Thursday, Chilean President Sebastián Piñera reported that his Spanish counterpart, Pedro Sánchez, has proposed that COP25, the world’s largest climate change conference, be held in Madrid in December 2-13.

President Piñera explained that the offer was communicated to top United Nations and COP25 officials as part of an effort to ensure that the progress that had been made can materialize and be implemented in Madrid.

“I hope that this generous offer by Spanish President Pedro Sánchez represents a solution, and I would like to clearly and categorically state that Chile is deeply and absolutely committed to being part of the solution to this problem of climate change and global warming,” President Piñera stated at La Moneda Palace.
