Cecilia Morel and other first ladies sign a commitment to protect the oceans in Biarritz

First Lady Cecilia Morel took advantage of the opportunity to explain the “Adulto Mejor” (Better Adult) program that Chile is developing. The initiative introduces a series of cross-sector measures designed to integrate senior citizens through positive, active and healthy aging. Some 30 measures are already fully functional.

On Monday, First Lady Cecilia Morel participated in a series of activities along with the other first ladies who were in Biarritz, France in the context of the G7 Summit.

The members of the group, who were led by their hostess, Brigitte Macron, visited Côte des Basques in Biarritz early in the morning to attend a series of workshops related to ocean protection and marine biodiversity.

Each first lady was accompanied by several young people as she signed a commitment to care for our oceans. This was one of the most important topics discussed at the summit.

The first ladies also attended a surfing and ocean rescue demonstration as Biarritz is a popular location for the sport.

The group that participated in these activities – including US First Lady Melania Trump, hostess Brigitte Macron of France, Akie Abe of Japan and Jenny Morrison of Australia - had the opportunity to talk about the work that each is doing in their home countries over a long lunch.

This was the second time that the group has met, and both have been marked by a great affinity among the first ladies. In fact, on the first day of the visit, Brigitte Macron greeted President Sebastián Piñera and Cecilia Morel when she came across them as they were dining in a local restaurant. The three talked for over half an hour about Chile, France and the G7.

On Sunday, the leaders’ spouses visited Espelete and Cambo-Les-Baines, where they met with shopkeepers and visited the imposing Saint-Etienne Church, a historical monument. Their visit concluded with a tour of the gardens of the home of the author of Cyrano de Bergerac.

This brought First Lady Cecilia Morel’s trip to France to a close, and she joined her husband, President Sebastián Piñera, to travel to Portugal.
